Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information formatting.tech ("we", "the site") collects, how it is used and the choices you have. The short version: the text you paste into our tools never leaves your browser, but the site uses Google Analytics and Google AdSense, which use cookies.

1. Content you process with the tools

All tools (formatters, validators, converters, encoders, decoders and generators) run as JavaScript inside your browser. The data you paste, type or open from a file is processed on your device and is not transmitted to or stored on our servers.

Some tools remember your last input and your light or dark theme choice using your browser's localStorage, so your work is still there if you reload the page. This data stays on your device. You can remove it at any time by clearing the editor or clearing site data in your browser settings.

2. Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used, for example which tools are popular, which pages people arrive on and which devices and browsers they use. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects information such as pages viewed, approximate location (derived from your IP address), device and browser type and referring website. It does not receive the content you process with the tools.

You can opt out of Google Analytics with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

3. Advertising and cookies

We use Google AdSense to show advertising, which keeps the tools free.

4. Consent in the EEA, UK and Switzerland

Visitors from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland are asked for consent through a Google-certified consent message before cookies are used for personalized advertising or analytics. Until you choose, analytics and advertising storage default to "denied". You can change your choice at any time using the privacy and cookie settings link shown by the consent message.

5. Contact form

If you send us a message through the contact page, we receive the name, email address and message you enter. We use them only to reply to you and delete them when they are no longer needed. The form is processed by our hosting provider, Netlify.

6. Chrome extension

The optional Formatting.tech Launcher extension for Chrome stores only your launcher settings, favorite tools and recently used tools, using Chrome's own synced storage (chrome.storage.sync) so they follow your Chrome profile. The extension does not read the pages you visit, does not collect personal data and sends nothing to us. Links it opens include utm_ parameters so our analytics can count visits that came from the extension. Uninstalling the extension removes its data.

7. Server logs and hosting

The site is hosted on Netlify. Like any web host, Netlify processes technical data such as IP addresses and request times to deliver pages and protect against abuse. These logs do not contain the content you process with the tools.

8. Children

The site is intended for developers and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or CCPA), you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal data, to object to or restrict processing, and to withdraw consent. Because we do not hold accounts or tool content, most data related to your visit is held by Google; use the links above to manage it. For anything else, email privacy@formatting.tech.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the site or the services it uses change. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised.
